Fred E. (Rick) Ivy, III, 62, died March 23, 2015. He was born on July 17, 1952 to Fred E. Ivy, Jr, and Peggy Tual Ivy. He leaves his mother and sister, Carole Ivy Givens (Buford) of Senatobia; MS. Rick was preceded in death by his father and his brother, David Tual Ivy. He also leaves his niece, Ruth Ivy Givens; two nephews, Warren Buford Givens, Jr. and West Meriwether Givens; his uncles John D. (Jack) Ivy, Jr. and Blanchard E. Tual of Memphis; aunt Carole Tual Saville of Albany, CA, and many cousins.
Rick graduated from White Station High School in 1970 and attended Memphis College of Art. As a young man, he served as a medical illustrator and photographer with Drs. Jerre Freeman and Tom Gettelfinger on medical mission teams. He also worked alongside his grandmother, Ruth Hunter Ivy, in restoring artworks and frames and took over her business after her death.
Rick was associated with the Memphis visual arts scene throughout his life and produced many works in various mediums, most recently his thoughtful watercolors. He also performed with many local bands and hosted a radio show titled Showcase Internationale on WEVL. Rick was an artist in all capacities. Through his amiable demeanor and quick wit, he enjoyed a diverse coterie of friends. Rick was creative and curious and loved Midtown Memphis.
